twistited neck-thru

So I bought a bass recently knowing its neck is "twisted". It is an 07 warwick thumb neck-thru four string. What can I do to fix this?

If the neck is not salvageable cut it off and route for a bolt-on

not much you can do. i hope you didn't spend much

and even if you route it for a bolt-on, Warwick doesn't sell necks, so you'll have to salvage ANOTHER clunker, or use a different neck.

talk to distributor to see if it's covered by warranty. it's two years old instrument - should not have that kind of problems.

Seems to me that neck thru instruments should carry a lifetime warranty on such issues.

My dad has a Neck thru Gibson, that they replaced immediately.

If the twist isn't too bad couldn't you plane it flat and radius sand it again? Just a thought.

Hi.

Welcome to TalkBass.

Two things can be done, but neither of them is cheap or easy.

#1 Take the fretboard off, realign/plane/sand whatever is necessary, and reglue.

#2 Take the frets off, plane the fretboard, deepen the fret-grooves and refret.

Not the most difficult tasks there is, but hard enough to take the bass to a luthier.

Depending on how bad the twist is, I've heard of a few cases where a heat treatment on the neck relieved it. One case was actually on a Thumb NT.

Sheer speculation until the OP chimes in, but these are just a few lines I've heard:

#1 Yep, it's twisted, but it hardly matters (sometimes very true though).

#2 There's a small twist in the neck, You'll get it 20% off the price .

#3 The neck is supposed to be a bit twisted to compensate for different string gauges .

Which brings a few questions.

How far below average street price was the actual price?

And most importantly:

Does the twist render the bass unplayable?

Those things are six kinds of crazy.

I would check on the warranty first and foremost, then go about trying to fix it if it's not covered.

hello,
I would personally remove the fingerboard the plane the neck and put a new fingerboard back on ...although i wouldnt recommend this if your not familiar on these luthier techniques.
