Two new Burnt Infant albums released today.

    Yes friends, Burnt Infant has put out two new offerings for your consumption. For those of you who don't know, Burnt Infant is my micro-tonal ambient project. It was originally a solo bass endeavor, but over the past few years it's shifted to being mostly a guitar based project (albeit, a guitar with too many frets). Behold:

    Spam is a collection of songs performed on my microtonal Hello-Kitty guitar, which has been modified for access to quarter tones. I just plugged my guitar straight into my computer and this is what I got.

    Early Works is just that: all my early experiments trying to figure out what to do with this idea. Solo bass performances, musique concrete, random noise, and early experiments with microtonality are all here.


    Both of these albums are available for free at http://www.burntinfant.com, but if you feel a desperate need to give me some money for them, I do accept donations through the Burnt Infant site.

    It'll be a while before I can give a rock solid listen, been a tad busy these days. I really dig this stuff, and anyone into ambient (more dark ambient) music, give this a listen.

    In my limited past listening, my overall comment would be that you manage to do ambient without being too minimalist nor too busy. There is enough melodic content for a satisfying "song" feel and not too chaotic: That's tricky. Too tricky, I usually just shove 39 tracks in a song and don't even try. Looking forward to listening.

    Ha! Thanks for your kind words, Matt, but... you might be a bit disappointed here. The entire Spam record was written and recorded in less than 24 hours, utilizing only a single track of guitar. It's not so much "tricky", nor do they have much of a "song" feel. Oh well...

    I still dig your stuff, regardless of how many tracks it features.

    Also, I'm experimenting with a take on the whole Radiohead/Nine Inch Nails free download thing: I'm simply asking for donations. This is something I did years ago with Dead Hand System; honestly without a lot of success. Perhaps now that some big names have gotten into the program, I might be able to make a few bucks.

    I'm curious as to what people think of this idea. Anybody?

    All the titles on "Spam" were taken from subject lines of spam I received in my inbox. Just letting you know.

    Wow. I'm actually really digging the Spam album. I listened to it earlier, sort of quiet, while downloading the other tracks. But (this is cheesy but) it needs to be listened to at a high volume to be appreciated. Very subtle. My review was super cheesy, but I dig it. Still prefer the "Early" stuff, methinks. But, I still think "Constipated Turtles on Heroin" is my favorite of all the music you've done thus far.

    Downloading now, can't wait. I have yet to really delve into any true ambient music unless Dead Can Dance counts. I remember when you posted "Bubo," "For Clara" and one other, and I really dug them. You do some interesting stuff...I'll post my review after finals week.

    I tended to like the first Experimental Lp more than the ambient one.

    The ambient one came off reminding me of Eno's work, which is not a bad thing, but was hoping for some surprise or newness to it, which to me, did not deliver.

    Still great stuff. I'm not sure how the wild titles fit with the Ambient songs?
    When I saw the titles I thought they were going to be wild & crazy, but were not, or at least more experimental. I could see your titles working with Fred Frith type songs.

    It also took me sometime to click on your stuff just because of your name. I just find it disgusting- sorry.

    That's what I love about it. I set out to name it the most metal thing I could think of, and then proceeded to make it as un-metal as possible.
