Two Notes Cab M/M+ or Opus?

Hi everyone

Apologies for any ignorance I may have with this, just getting into this part of the pedal/effects world and just looking for the best option!

I’m looking for a small cab simulator to use for live and recording situations and I’ve been really drawn to the Two Notes stuff, but I’m stuck on which one to get - the Cab M/M+ or the Opus.

I already have a bass preamp, so my intention is to use it purely as a cab simulator with the Two Notes cabinet packs.

I feel like just the Cab M/M+ would suffice for my needs, but the Opus also seems like a worthwhile gear investment. Perhaps a bit overkill for what I need, but good options to have.

Any experience with these that you could share is greatly appreciated!

I use a CAB M+ just as you are mentioning, and it's great! I have a tube pre-amp in front, and the cab sim section of the Opus and Cab M+ are identical. The big bonus/upgrade of the Opus is being able to get a full set of preamps and power amps; there is a power amp modelling section in the Cab M+, but it is fairly no frills. But for me, it was purely about the cab sim/IR capability.

Either unit is a fine choice, but I have a feeling the Opus is overkill for your needs.

I decided on an Opus over a Cab M and it’s a great piece of gear! What “flavor” is your preamp? Opus has Ampeg and Darkglass preamps, and if you’re recording, that would add versatility. There’s also a decent number of guitar preamps that sound great as well, and acoustic IRs and clean pre/power amps I’ll likely never use but hey, why not? I also like having XLR out and a 1/4” out that can be placed after any block. The control app for the Opus is also really good (I’ve used iPhone and iPad). I totally agree that it’s a bit overkill, but for me it was worth paying a little more to have the versatility of the Opus over the Cab M- it’s a great Swiss Army knife, and easy enough to not use what you don’t need. Would you rather find yourself saying “I wish I didn’t have all that” or “I wish I had that”?

I went through the same decision process. Great deals on CAB-M+ right now, but I went with the Opus as it is the new version, and will likely be supported and upgraded more than the older version. Definitely overkill but sounds great and the price differential between the new and old versions is small.

Mesa/Boogie guy here - It’s a Mesa/Boogie Subway. My cab sim will most likely be the Subway 4x10. That being said, the Powerhouse pack looks appealing!

I'll add something that was a big issue / dealbreaker for me that I feel is relevant simply because it's poorly advertised:

The CAB models have a MONO aux / headphone circuit. The Opus has a stereo one, I believe.

Had the Opus existed when I had bought my CAB, that alone would have made me go with the Opus. Obviously this may not be as big an issue for everyone if they're not planning to use the unit as a practice solution like me, but it was a complete bummer to find out when I bought my unit.
