Two Notes Revolt Bass

I'm so late to this party. I so wanted the Revolt bass, but the lack of a mid control for clean is a total deal breaker for me. Why in the name of….well you get it. Just: *** i suppose, what a crazy decision. One (or two if it was parametric) knob. also I don't want to live in the past. Ampeg? No. Although strangely not the dealbreaker for me.
i think that means the bass simplifier - stereo options too on that one. im very glad I could read much of this thread to help me decide. Where I am it's hard to play through a revolt.

Hi, new Revolt Bass user here with a question. I've never owned anything with a tube in it before so apologies if I'm missing something totally obvious here, but in every video I've seen of this pedal the tube seems to glow and give a visual indication of the signal going through it, probably describing it quite poorly but this is what I mean, the tube appears to "shimmer" as the gain increases:

Mine doesn't do that, infact the tube seems to not light up at all, only being illuminated by the LED behind it. Is this a hardware fault? Its a bit confusing because otherwise the pedal seems to work, the gain works on all 3 channels. I've opened it up and had a look inside but the tube does appear to be seated okay, like its not blatantly off-centre or anything. Didn't feel like pulling it out as its in there pretty good and I didn't want to force it. Is this a hardware fault? If I bypass the pedal I can see two filaments glowing very faintly by the bottom of the tube but that's it.

I've wanted a valve pre-amp for ages and conceptually I really dig this pedal, I'm just a bit confused as the tube looks like it isn't working but the pedal otherwise seems to work fine, its not like nothing at all happens when I plug it in.

Hi @VisionThing

Ross from Two notes here. That shimmering is actually the LED cycle being picked up by the camera's frame rate. The non-flickering you are describing is completely normal operation! Let me know if there is anything else we can help you with today!

I get that but the two band is actually pretty good. Ideally you're using the Revolt with an Opus where you have an infinite amount over control with the post processing options. I had a CAPO for a few months that I loved but the ReVolt + OPUS combo works so much better because of the MIDI control from the Revolt to the OPUS. Mids for days if you would like.

My issue with the ReVolt is the Gain structure between the 3 pres. When I get the clean-ish to where I like it, the other two cant keep up, even with the volume knob maxed. I've only had it like this for a few weeks so the next time I can attache the torpedo remote I'll see if I can restructure my gain staging.

Ross from Two notes here. Thanks for reaching out - in terms of the gain staging are you referring to the volume on ReVolt itself? If so, you should not have an issue matching volumes between the three channels - that is if you are using channel 1 for your clean? If you can confirm, I would be happy to look into this for you!

Thanks Ross, I have some testing to do first in the DAW to look at the output signal strength and some tweaking to do in the remote software first. It's more than likely an EQ and enhancement issue in presets 2 and 3 compared to what I have set in preset 1. Belive it or not I've never listed to the ReVolt by itself thru headphones.

It's probably user error but when I select "Dirt" or "Drive" the bass totally drops out in the mix and it's impossible to even hear. Kind of like an "and Justice for all" type of experience :)./

@Ross Davies just did a quick test and indeed, the headphone volumes out of the ReVolt pretty much Slay and I can get an evenly "loud" signal out of all three channels. When testing with the "tailgater" presets, I do indeed hear a significant drop in the output. This of course could be any number of things between the Power amp selection and settings, EQ, enhancer, mic and placement to the cabinet used. Look like I have some more work to do in the torpedo remote.

Any chance we'll see a USB direct connection to a DAW from theOPUS anytime soon? That would eliminate the need for a separate interface.

Well, I think we can all agree that "And Justice For All" was indeed "Justice for All but Bass Players!" :)

Glad to hear the unit is working as expected - yes indeed, some tweaking of the presets should get you where you need to be in Remote - you can also use the Preset Fader to match the presets volume wise if needs be.

Sadly OPUS doesn't actually feature an interface so we wont be able to add Audio over USB. Rest assured, the team are aware of this for future products as it has been a common request.

If you need anything else, I am here to help!

I tried a boost in front of it to good effect. I like that it natively isn't super hot.

I have a Revolt on the way and am really looking forward to checking it out. I think it's going to come in handy for a blues rock gig I have where I need to be able to get a scooped pick tone for some Satriani songs as well as an overdriven tone on some other songs. I'm hoping I'll be able to turn channel 3 into essentially just a boost with just a touch of wet signal to put some hair on the sound for soloing.

One question that I have as I've been reading the manual is the ability to have the loop on or off on specific channels. My plan is to have a compressor in the loop and have it activated only when channel 1 was on. From the instructions it seems like muting channel 2 and 3 is easy enough, but can you set it to mute the loop in bypass mode? I'm planning on using the bypassed tone for my regular sound and use the 3 Revolt channels for tone sculpting, and I really don't need/want a comp on when the Revolt is bypassed.

When I bypass my default state ReVolt I've bypassed the effects loop as well.
"When ReVolt is bypassed, the dry bass signal passes through the amp's input and all the amp's features/tone shaping are unaltered by ReVolt's all-analog processing. When a channel is activated on ReVolt, the signal passes through the instantiated ReVolt preamp and companion tone stack, feeding only the amplifier's power amp."
I don't see anything in the manual to suggest that the effects loop can be active without an active channel.

So the effects loop isn't active when the channels are bypassed? Despite the fact that I want it off for my purposes, this seems like a huge design flaw.

Thanks for bearing with us while we looked into this! We have heard back from the team and they have confirmed that no, the FX loop in ReVolt is not active when ReVolt is bypassed when the 4CM switch is on O. Please let us know if you need any more info!

Can the effects loop be active when all 3 channels are bypassed and not in 4CM?

Thank you for letting me know. This works great for my personal needs, but you guys definitely need to get this information into the user manual. Seems like a huge omission.

We hear you loud and clear! We have sent this to our support team now!

@Ross Davies

I love that Two Notes folks are here helping people sort things out. Thank you!! I have a HX Stomp XL and I am considering a Revolt Bass pedal. Question, some folks add an Opus after the Revolt, why? I thought that the Revolt is an amp/cab simulator?

Also, If I buy a Revolt used is there still a warranty and do I get the software?

Thanks again Ross and Two Notes!!
