two notes up high?

I am working through some various setups and have found this question:
when I play high notes- high up the fingerboard alla 14th fret and above- I am hearing 2 notes at once; I presume this is from low action and/or relief.

I thought I would post and see if anyone has great advice for me. Meanwhile I will experiment and adjust some more.

I can hear two notes whenever I play on my jazz, it is normal for low action. It doesn't get out through the amp, but can be a real bother if you're using piezo pickups...

Most likely you are hearing the string vibrating on the "other" side of the neck, between the nut and where you are fretting the note. This will usually not be heard through the output to your amp, but can be heard acoustically while playing.

^ I get this all the time when not using an amp. Annoying to the max but i just plug in and use headphones when it starts getting to me.

I am in 100% agreement with what the others have said. It does seem to happen more at the higher frets. Your pickups don't see that vibration so it is not translated to the sound you hear from the amp.

Yes, it does sound funny through the amp, and it's not the backside of the note- I tested for that already by muting the string behind the notes. It happens on all the strings; I have not had a chance yet to alter the setup to experiment. I will do that today.
What's weird to me is that it doesn't sound like buzz. I know the sound of string buzz very well...

I have, to my satisfaction, ruled out some weird pickup sound resulting from pickup height, and the backside string resonance. I have the truss rod pretty near straight, and the weather has been swinging around here. I presume that either more relief/higher action will fix it, but dang it's annoying to hear that sound coming out of a great instrument!

While you were installing the strings, you may have inadvertently twisted them along the length. You might want to re-install the same strings taking care to keep them straight.

Sounds like you are getting some kind of sympathetic vibration. Check for anything loose and try damping the other strings when you play.

I have tried some truss tweaks and raising the action to hear when it stops. It doesn't stop before the strings are significantly higher than I want them. I may take to the fret Plekker.
