Check out Om. It's not math-rock or jazz, but it is nonetheless amazing stoner doom/gnostic metal.

Also, Lightning Bolt. They will change your life.

+100, Om is one of my most favorite bands of all time. great 2 peice band. Al Cisneros is a great bassist and both drummers are great in their own ways.

My friend used to be in a two piece band with me. He moved to Australia and discovered this awesome Auzzie two-piece called DZ Deathrays (formerly DZ). Definitely in the DFA1979 vein, which is probably why I dig them so much.

I'm a big fan of Japanther, very Ramones-esque and dance-able. They sing through pay phone receivers and have a tiny tape player that accompanies them and plays all their keyboard parts/sample. Very lo-fi, great live show.

I used to live in Providence, which has a surfeit of two-piece bands (probably thanks to Lightning Bolt):

The Body are an incredible sludge/doom guitar/drum duo that are absolutely epic live. Last time I saw them, their rig decimated two surge protectors.

The Body: "Lathspell I name you"

Wizzards is a Brian Gibson, of LB fame, side project where he switches off to playing drums (which he's good at too). Doesn't sound a whole lot like LB, much more melodic, sounding almost like the soundtrack to an 80's Toei cartoon performed by members of Yes. Very cool/
