If you highlight my original post, you'll see what's what. ;)

I found that soloed I loved #2 but in a band setting it didn't cut at all. It's easy to boost the bass on #1 and cut through, but I find it a bit more difficult to cut through with #2 whilst sounding as nice.
 
Every so often, I'll be on stage and for many reasons I don't even want to begin to analyze or remedy, my bass is just not cutting through. It could be room acoustics, frequency combing or filtering, or something else.

On those occasions, I usually grab my P Bass, or wish that I could.

Yes, you have to EQ for the room, but I have never had to use a tone that sounded bad soloed but worked in the mix.

Nothing worse than a boomy room though. :(
