Kala Brand Music Co., the manufacturer of the U-BASS, has announced that it will distribute Aquila Thundergut bass strings. Thundergut strings provide bass players with an alternative string choice for use on all U-Basses, Kala’s line of 21” scale bass instruments that produce enormous bottom end in a short scale.

The Aquila Thundergut strings are manufactured in Italy and are made of a precise combination of both a dense and an elastic-plastic blend. The result is a string with density, stability, and the ability to resonate at very low frequencies. The strings are white in appearance. Kala now offers three varieties of strings for use on its U-BASS instruments that include its original proprietary Polyurethane strings, Pyramid silver plated copper wound, and the Aquila Thundergut strings.

Kala introduced the original U-Bass design in 2009. Since then the bass has been chosen for studio and live performance by many notable artists that include Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon), Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck), Abraham Laboriel, and Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt). It has also been featured in the popular TV series, "Glee" and the film “Just Go With It”.
Kala U-Basses are very portable and meet all airline carry on requirements.
