I am so looking forward to this movie.. I hope they do it justice... I was a huge fan of U.N.C.L.E., Mission Impossible, It Takes a Thief.. and of course The Saint (although I never liked Moore as Bond.. ) , The Avengers and Get Smart ... but I am looking forward to this movie.. I agree, I liked Roger Moore better as SImon Templer, and his Volvo P1800.

His P1800 was genius product placement. The early P1800 were built in England, not Gothenburg, as competition for the Triupmphs, Healys and MGs of the day. Fun cars.

Fingers crossed. Used to live for Friday nights. It was the first TV show I was addicted to. UNCLE and The Beatles. My childhood was perfect.

I suspect U.N.C.L.E even had an effect on popular music later. If you listen to 'March of the Swivelheads' by The (English) Beat, which can be heard during Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it features the U.N.C.L.E staple of bongos, a spy theme, as heard in the non-instrumental version 'Rotating Heads', and a few other 60s stylings.

Not one we got in the UK (that I remember)

U.N.C.L.E, Mission Impossible, Man in a Suitcase, The Avengers, The Champions, The Saint, The Persuaders, The Proclaimers, several of which featured US actors even though some were UK series. The bongos were rarely absent from the incidental music for more than a few minutes. I presume there was some sort of world glut of bongo players.

David Prowse (Darth Vader) turns up in The Champions, briefly, in what is essentially a mankini.

I see the main riff with the unison bass and guitar parts may have been an influence on The Beat too. Different pieces, but copping a little of those little elements from the 60s.

Open channel D: I guess I'm in the minority here. I'm 56 and grew up with these same shows. This looks disastrous to me. It would appear as if there is no U.N.C.L.E.? Isn't this the same bland guy that was The Lone Ranger? FYI, Vaughn is still alive. We did recently lose Sir Patrick Macnee (RIP). Yes, Steed is GONN. I hope I'm wrong about the movie. I had high hopes for The Green Hornet movie. I enjoyed it, but alas...

I'm being optimistic. This movie kicked around for about ten years with lots of different actors said to be set to play Solo.

My Dad used to watch it with my brother and I. He admitted some years later he watched it because every week there was a different hot girl on it.

Man from U.N.C.L.E. was one of my favorite shows.

Also had all of the books. The story plots in the books would have made a nice series of episodes or movies.

The P38 convertable to a rifle was pretty neat also.

The gun silencers, as in most "spy" movies were pretty much nothing more than artistic license, though. But the sound was cool.

In truth...I don't have high hopes.
Don't wanna drag it down, but , I'm proud to say that "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was a cultural milestone for me . The idea that Americans and the COOLEST Russian who ever walked the face of the Earth could...even needed to...work against a common enemy was so Brain-Stretching as to rank as 'an epiphany' for 12 /13 year old me!
I'm not, by nature, a cynical guy, but I see a boatload of product placement, and dialogue not fit for consumption... and a lota s#$t blowing UP...
