U5 Owners I could use your help

I recently purchased a U5 and I love it Beans (Beans-on toast) helped me set it up thanks again Beans. I can't for the life of me figure out my problem whenever I use the speaker in option I can't monitor any of boost levels or tone changes during recording regardless if I use the mic or line out? if I use the front inputs I can monitor the changes. I'm using a V4B/ Motu Track 16/ Pro Tools 11. I prefer to use the speaker in option so I don't have to reconnecting cables thanks for any help.

Have you tried the headphones-out jack to see if you can't hear your tweaking? I can't think why this would happen except that they may have had to bypass these circuits because of the increase in power from the speaker cables. I have two U5s. Love 'em. They're almost always on at my place these days.

I'm running amps through each, via their line-outs into the front IN jack then straight into the board. Never attempted what you're trying to do - and I've never used the headphone jack either so that's purely theoretical - it follows, probably, that the same restrictions your experiencing would apply there too.

You could get your settings first, via the front jack, then hook up the speaker cable and fly blind. I'm just guessing though. There may be a better way. You have a great little box there, regardless.

Thanks Tom I'll have to check out that headphone jack I keep forgetting it's back there and so far I was doing what you suggested about going blind thanks again.

Had a little look around the Avalon Site and found this on the subject, in their FAQ Section,

U5 Speaker Input

Q: How do you use the speaker input on the back of the U5?

A: The set up is as follows:

1. Connect your instrument to the input on your instrument amplifier.

2. Connect your amplifier speaker output to your speaker for normal operation.

3. Connect a secondary speaker output from your amp or your speaker cabinet to the SPEAKER INPUT on the rear of the U5.

4. Press in the SPEAKER to INPUT on the front of the U5.

5. Connect the line output on the U5 to the recording device or mixing console.

Nothing I'd want to do at home because I'm trying to keep a lid on the dBs but it seems pretty straight forward. Good to know anyway.

Thanks Tom I can hear the changes with the headphones but since I lost the hearing in my right ear they are uncomfortable to wear I'm going to just use the front access thanks so much for that info.
