UAD Apollo solo vs Twin

Hi Guys,
I do occasionally record my bass home and send it to producers.
Buying an Apollo I will use a amp/cab simulation, a compressor, an EQ. Not much more for the time being.
Also I would use it for practising in ear.
Would you guys say an Apollo solo is enough?
When would an apollo solo start to suffer?

What you’re describing should be ok. I have a Solo and use most of the DSP just for one bass track. Can easily get a preamp plus 3-4 processors with just the one core. And still enough juice for a preamp plus reverb for a vocal channel.
Especially if you’re using the bundled processors like UA preamp, LA2A comp, SVT amp sim those don’t use a lot of DSP.
Been a while but I kinda remember there being a chart with DSP usage for different plug-ins. Try searching the UA site that would let you calc how much you can run.
Some things are surprisingly hungry like one of the Fender guitar amp models iirc.
Another way to save DSP is to use a channel strip - I use the api one a lot - has preamp, eq, compressor all in one plugin.
I rarely record with my Apollo, use it all the time for practice. I don’t think folks appreciate just how good it sounds for a very moderate $$ investment. Great way to compare classic stuff like Manley, API, Neve, Pultec and other stuff. I later bought hardware versions of some things and found that UA really nails the character of the originals even though the hardware does sound or maybe ‘feel’ slightly better.
