A friend of mine (child psychology major and fellow musician) told me that a study showed that children that started to play an instrument before puberty are more likely to stay with it, and excel in math and reading.

It's a great feeling - my daughter (12 years old) has picked it up as well. We've been working at it every week and she tags along to band practice also.
Oh, and I don't think I have to worry about her developing a thing for Sadowsky - I asked her about that already and she exclaimed, "Do you know how many clothes you can buy for that?!?!"
