can anyone who owns a kala u-bass possibly tell me what gauges the strings are. and do what scale lengths they come in. also would it be possible to use guts instead? i did check kalas site but couldnt find the info i need.

Kala's are 20" scale, and the strings are not a standard gauge, they are 5/32" - 3/16" - 7/32" - and 9/32" if I remember correctly.
The strings are made of polyurethane which is essential to getting the big sound out of this small instrument. I'm pretty sure you cannot put any other strings on a Kala U-bass and get decent results.

other than Ashbory strings which are very similar, except the U bass strings are a little firmer and smoother
