Why would they make them square ? to handle so much lows they probably move a lot, making the corners resistant enough probably was hard.

Serious answer. I worked in R&D for Kicker car audio who held the patents to the designs that make a square woofer feasible. Yes the corners are an issue. Makes it more feasible though that you're making speakers that aren't for audiophiles. Kicker makes some very nice sounding speakers but the super high output stuff is built just for super high output.

Yeah - in a way it sucks. I would actually like something a little better than factory in this econobox. But not $400 better. Actually my last car - even to replace the factory radio with a single din unit ($50 but it would play USB sticks) - would have required a $200 plastic trim because the factory radio had all these curves and shapes molded into it. Covered the AC vents, clock, radio, heat, etc...

assuming your car audio amp/inverter is 100% efficient, it would require 333 Amps of current from your car to run at full noise.

And according to the only ampacity chart I can find for that much DC power, at 12VDC you'd need to run 600MCM cable to feed it. That's well over an inch diameter of solid copper 'strands' each the size of an instrument cable!!! And about 10 pounds per foot.

I've been around stuff like that in use; you need a hydraulic pipe bender just to bend it! Which oddly is small stuff compared to the power plant I retired from. The generator there put out 25,000 amps at 25,000 volts, 3 phase. Imagine the possibilities!!!

At kicker we had the Warhorse amps. 10,000 watts. They typically installed 8 batteries and 2 upgraded alternators with them.
