Um...Ohms??

boy, you guys really suck at conveying information ;)

ok, so here it is in layman's terms. you may use only the berg or only the schroeder in your lmii. if you ever get a second 8 ohm cab, you can use it with your schroeder in the lmii. you may NOT hook up both the berg and the schroeder together.

Easy formula: (multiplication / addition) >= amp rating

Say an amp rated at 4ohms. The combination of resistances (cabs) has to be greater or equal than the amp rating.

Two 4 ohms cabs: 4x4 / 4+4 = 16 / 8 =2 ohms (wont work)

Two 8 ohms cabs: 64 / 16 = 4 ohms (will work)

One 4 and one 8 ohms: 8x4 / 8+4 = 32/12 = 2.66 ohms (wont work)

You sure can connect a 500 watts amp to a 1-8ohm cabs, but that will only give you 250 watts of power.

2-8ohms cabs will give you full power.

Cannot be more digested than this.

C'mon, man. I thought mine was pretty danged clear and comprehensive.

Ya know i wasn't even thinking of that when i wrote it. Maybe I should see what it is out to 6 places!!!

Maybe i shoulda just put 5 and a half ohms....but the intent was to make sure somebody didn't measure an 8 ohm speaker and think it was bad.

i played a 4 ohm and an 8 ohm mixed for the first decade of my playing life, and i used a GK 400RB head and three 15" speakers. sounded great, super hot and spongy. then one day my amp caught fire. after i replaced it, the speakers just sounded "worn out", like they were worked to death, which they actually were. i would heed the advice given here and NOT do it. those old GK's were some hard working muthas too, and withstood tons of abuse. get another head, sell and replace a cab, just run the impedance correctly if you want to avoid problems.

You are right the 4 and 8 means impedance but if you measure the cab inet with a multimeter, you won't measure impedance but DC resistance, whicjh will be lower than the 4 or 8 ohms impedance. this is the only point I was trying to make ...possibly to save somebodey from thinking they had a bad speaker when they measured a lower value than 4 or 8 ohms.
