Now I know there shouldn't be any concern over buzzes that are not getting amplified, but I've noticed a phenomenon with unamplified string noise and I am wondering if this is a common occurance.
To provide a proper background to my situation: I have my action set at medium/medium low by most standards; my neck is set pretty straight with slight up bow, and the bridge, saddles, and nut are all set to proper specifications to facilitate a good playing action. I have some slight buzzing when sustaining a note here and there but that doesn't bother me in the least.
My concern is that I notice a type of subtle buzzing/rattling/vibrating that is not as obvious as an actual fret buzz. It seems as if it is coming from the string behind the freted notes and is more pronounced on the lower strings, especially the E. I thought it might be a trussrod issue, as if the rod was vibrating against the inside of the neck, then I suspected a rattling at the bridge somewhere but after closer investigation, I've deduced that it is indeed the string vibrating off the frets behind as well as in front of the fretted note. This vibrating/rattling sound occurs all along the length of the string, or should I say, the fretboard. As I said this isn't picked up when amplified so it SHOULDN'T be a concern for me but I am such an overly-analytical perfectionist that it is kind of irking me. I remember another bass of mine doing the same thing especially on the low B.
So is this phenomenon typical for unamplified electric bass/guitars from anyone's experience?
