I'm hoping to get some clarity here.
I am planning out a rack system built around having a line mixer feeding my amp (and in-ear mix and so on, but for this exercise I'm keeping the setup simple). I have the perfect mixer in mind. The input setup:
Channel 1-2: Instruments
Channel 3: Board mix
Channels 1-2 will be blended and sent to my amp and ears. Channel 3 will only exist as a monitor send to my ears.
I would like to be able to have front-end connectivity so that I don't have to plug things into the back of the rack on every gig. This has lead me to researching patchbays. I've asked a couple of professionals, and I have conflicting opinions as to whether or not I'd be able to use one in the way I want.
I need to essentially plug my instruments into jacks in the front of the rack, and from a jack in the back of the patchbay, send it to the appropriate input on the mixer. From there, control the mix on the line mixer. Also I would use one of the outputs on the front (top row) to feed the amp.
Am I wrong in thinking that this type of setup would work? Assuming patchbay is set to non-normal?
