Past this point your signal starts looking like a square wave. A square wave is essentially DC. Heres the potential for under powered speakers getting blown.

for the record, I'm a firm disbeliever in the under-powering a cab myth, but the volume knob analogy you guys are all using is exactly the opposite of the actual under-powering "problem"

it makes as much sense as blowing your cab with too little power

This is the information people are being fed at large stores like guitar center to make sales on expensive equipment. Its sales and marketing. Why try and sell someone a $500 head when we can sell them a $2000 head that they don't need when starting out.

Interesting but I've never had that happen to me in the last 12+ years of playing.
What $2k bass amps do they sell at GC they push so hard?
I actually almost every time see associates sell something smaller than an overblown rig. If you go in thinking you need a full SVT 810 rig for coffee house gigs and had the $$ to blow bc you or your parents don't know better I'd sell it to you also, who the real joke is on. If you think you're trendy by ragging on GC for no reason ok but not sure how they apply to you not reading the FAQ and getting called out for it.
