Double Bass Undercover bag for NS EUB's

I'm looking for something significantly better than the separate bass and stand bags that come with the instrument (CR5M).

Hi,

I haven't used/seen the Undercover bag but I just got a CRM5 in December and NS has apparently redesigned their bag. It has an attached external pocket designed for the stand and a lightly padded interior pocket for...whatever. The overall material and padding is not as heavy on as a good electric bass cover, however.

I'm looking into one of these right now as the CR4T I just got yesterday came in a minimally padded mike stand bag with No compartments at all. Used it last night and had to wrap everything in beach towels....yes I live in Florida for those of you with snow still on the ground!

The one I see on the BassCentral site looks like there is no separate pocket for the stand. Anyone care to elaborate?

I wonder if we're looking at the same picture. I just checked their site and the picture fairly clearly shows 3 pockets, 2 long ones, for tripod and/or endpin stand and 1 small one for smaller accessories. It looks just like the one I have and it's a decent bag.

Here's a pic:

I bought an Undercover bag for my WAV4, and love it. the tripod is a snug fit in the side pocket, so I bought a Rawlings baseball bat bag from Wal-Mart for $11. Carries the stand assorted cords, cables, and non-fragile accessories. Mine is bright red. You can find it without much trouble in a dark venue, and you can see it if it moves without you!

Sorry. I did get my Undercover Case and it IS very nice! I could get any color I wanted as long as it was black so that's what I got. Everything fits good and the workmanship is excellent as the only issue was the stand pocket is a little tight with my stand with a bow quiver strapped on. I added some colored loops on the zippers to find them easier. Nice bag.

I recently bought one of the Undercover bags to replace the factory NS bad and wanted to add my two cents. In short, the Undercover bag stomps on the NS bag! Hands down!

  • The velcro flaps shown in the picture above have been replaced by zippers. Much more secure
  • The Undercover bags uses high quality YYK and Ap zipper hardware, unlike the generic hardware on the NS. YYK is the gold standard for zippers...I've never heard of Ap
  • The stand pocket on the Undercover has a bit less volume than the NS bag and the bow pocket has a bit more volume than the NS bag
  • The Undercover bag lacks the secondary, inner bow pocket that the NS has
  • The foam on the Undercover is far thicker and more dense than on the NS, giving the bag a quasi-rigid structure compared to the wet noodle floppiness of the NS bag
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, the handle and strap ends are attached to the bag through 1 3/8" webbing which is itself, sewn to the bag.

This is FAR more secure than rivet and sewn vinyl patch that NS uses. I know...the upper shoulder end on my NS bag gave up the ghost, causing the whole bag to dive bomb the asphalt. Fortunately, there wasn't any real damage. I'm fairly certain the handle would have given up the ghost also had I continued the use it. Granted, my bag is somewhat heavy. In addition to the bass and the stand, I carry a Manhasset folding stand base and a few other widgets. The load bearing parts of a gig bag (e.g. shoulder strap, handle) should be critical. Sadly, this isn't the first load bearing failure I've experienced with a gig bag. I wish more gig bag manufacturers would figure out how to make even their bargain gig bags bomb proof in that sense. But I digress.

Bottom line, the Undercover bag is superior in every way. The only improvement I can think of would be some sort of non-skid rubber on the bottom of the bag. I often put my bag on the ground...and if you use the NS supplied gig bag, BEWARE!

Will a Ergo EUB fit into one of these Undercover NS gig bags?

Post up some dimensions and I will measure mine for you Bro!!

BTW......Long Pocket #1 is for Bow cases and will hold (2) Concord hard bow cases nice and snuggly and Long Pocket #2 is for the stand which is snug as well and the stand goes in easiest bottom, first especially with a Bow quiver strapped on. The little pocket is good for Rosin and batteries and stuff like that buts it only like 6" x 11" x 2" so cords must be crammed in there. I have all my cords in my pedal board case so it's just the little stuff in mine.

Sorry for the late response. My Ergo is 54" long, 5 1/2" wide, about 4" deep

Ok. Just saw this. My case is about 53 1/2" to almost 54" long inside and about 6 1/2" at it's widest and almost 5 3/4" deep keeping in mind there is about 1" of foam padding all around and the heavy nylon is flexible enough to stretch around your slightly longer bass. All of my dimensions are inside at the widest points. My NS is a little shorter at 52 1/2" but easily fits in the case.

My $02:

After gigging with my NS once or twice a week for over a year, the original bag was starting to show wear, so I got a maroon Undercover bag and I am very satisfied with it. It is very much like the original bag except better in virtually every aspect- sturdier, more padding, more rigid, the pockets seem slightly bigger, and the zippers are better. Somehow the position of the shoulder strap is not quite perfect, but it is adequate.

If you are rely on a gig bag I highly recommend it.

PS- the maroon bag is nice. It seems like every other cover and case is black, so it makes it easier to differentiate.
