Underpowering two cabs? Need your advice.

Demo ANYTHING you can in your area if selection new and used is limited. Again, you can at least develop a reference for sound, for what you like and don't like. I would spend more on the speakers than the amp, but your limited budget might not make that workable. Also, don't rush into it if you feel overwhelmed. That's your brain telling you you need more info. Are there other musicians in your area that can give you pointers on getting a solid rig on a budget? Talking up your situation with peers might net a good lead on a good deal. Some food for thought.

There are bad and good bassists in my area. No middle position. They have small no name combos OR all tube laney nexus and ampeg heads. I'm afraid of asking them, because they will probably recommend what they use, because they don't have experience with another gear.

That's why I'm turning to you, tbers. You taught me too many things. Especially @ubernator . But out of 30 persons there was like only one with not really useful info. ALL of you contributed so many information in two days, that I (a youngster) couldn't get locally after maybe even years.

Two things for me to consider now: this is my list:

Fender rumble 500 + Fender rumble 210 cab
Bugera BVP 5500 + the eden mentioned, or any other 410
This is sooo minimalistic..

Can we make a rule that you can't make a new underpowering thread if you don't include links to 5-10 previous threads to prove that you've actually tried to search for an answer and haven't found one yet, and that you have a basic understanding already?

Bassy and bright? That's not really Ampeg, where you started. bassy, yes; bright no.

If you want bassy and bright, GK is where you should be looking. MB 500 and MB 800 are built like tanks.

Irrelevant. If the word underpowering is involved, the question does not need to be asked because there's no such thing. Now, an amp can be underpowerED for a specific application, in the sense that it won't be loud enough (which also involves what speaker/s are being used), but underpowering a cab is not a thing in the sense of somehow causing damage. Anybody who had read any 3 or more of the previous underpowering threads (which pop up about every week or so) would know this, negating the need to start a new thread on it.

Now in your situation, I would probably just get both the Hartke cabs if you think you need that much firepower, because that would work a lot better than a random Hartke and random Ampeg cab (the amp is largely irrelevant except for the wattage). Besides the main difference of one having a 5" mid and the other having a tweeter, I would imagine the 2 XL cabs would be pretty similar and go well together. The "10" part of each cab is probably identical or close, and if that's the case, one will have slightly more mids and the other will have slightly more highs, which should essentially give you a 3 way 8x10, which actually seems like a pretty cool idea. I'm sure people with more experience with those specific cabs can comment more precisely on them.

I have a borrowed Transporter 4x10 and I actually really like the way it sounds, but the 200w power handling is way too low for me to use it as a main cab which is I probably won't end up buying it from the owner (well, besides currently having full use of it for free). Tomorrow night though I will probably try it out at practice with my "new" ancient Genz Benz 4x10 (and before the matching cabs mafia jumps in, I know all the science going on, I'm mainly just looking to get a little more headroom for EQ'ing and see if the mids/treble of the 2 cabs blend nicely together, which I think is likely, since the Hartke is a bit more "zingy" while the GB is more midsy). I also just want to get the GB up on a the Hartke because the GB doesn't have the grill on right now and I don't want the guitarist's (whose house we practice at) 3 year old and/or dog somehow damaging one of the speakers with it on the ground.
