Understanding EQ

Here's an old TB thread list-of-eq-frequencies-to-accomplish-diff-things-on-bass
Discussing what different EQ ranges do to a bass signal.

But take all the generalizations with a grain of salt.
Use them a starting points to do the science for yourself, and use your ears,
like JimmyM's post suggests

The most important lesson I learned over the years is :
the bass knob on most amps is not for boosting your bass to get a nice warm "phat" bass tone.
what I always heard as a strong, fat, juicy bass tone ( old school Motown or Reggae)
turned out to be closer to 350-500 Hz , what I consider low mids,
where most bass knobs effect lower frequencies under 200 Hz
the bass knob is most effective for reducing unwanted boom to tighten up the sound.

but others will claim that 350 Hz is where the "mud" is.
Much depends on context , personal taste and sonic goals.
so again, grain of salt, use your ears
