Understanding Mid/Bass Shift on Sansamp BDDI V2

So I recently replaced my Eden WTDI with a Sansamp BDDI V2 just to try something different. I play in my church's worship team and we all run in ear setups. I've looked on the internet for some more information regarding the mid/bass shift features on the BDDI and I guess I'm not really understanding it yet. I play a 4 string active bass and a 5 string passive bass (only one each service depending on the setlist).

Can someone help me understanding how the shift functionality could be used? I played around with the shift buttons a little the other day while we were setting up for worship practice but only had a few minutes and couldn't really tell a big difference.

The V2 Bass Shift switch has 40Hz (up) and 80Hz (down) settings. I understand that these are center frequencies for the variable Bass knob. The Q (the range/bandwidth) of the Bass knob is unknown to me, does anyone know?

4-string bass fundamentals range from ~40Hz (open E) to ~400Hz. 5- and 6- obviously go lower.

So I would guess (without knowing the Q for sure ) that the up (40Hz) setting is 'meant' for 5- and 6- string basses (allows the Bass knob to affect frequencies well below 40, also lowers the top affected affected frequency) whereas the down (80 Hz) setting is 'meant' for 4-string basses (Bass knob still has some effect at 40 but not much at the useless frequencies below that; also raises the top affected frequency)

Am I thinking right?

(Yes, I know the best way to hear the effects is to just try them, but I'm curious about the intent)

It is impossible to say without knowing more details about the filter, but you are definitely "on the right track".
I would phrase it like this instead; on the five string bass, you have more notes affected by equalizing the 40 Hz range, than on the four string one.
Then the character of the filter has to been known to get the full picture.

I recently asked Tech 21 support about their EQ on the BDDI V.2 (which I absolutely love btw). Here was my question and their reply . Hopefully it makes sense. I will echo what ddnidd1 said above, the difference between the two frequencies are fairly subtle-especially 40/80 Hz.

Q: I am looking at the Sansamp Bass Driver DI V.2. Is the bass EQ control a shelving EQ? Or is it a wide-q with a center at either 80 or 40 Hz? With the way they’re arranged, I assume the treble and presence controls are “peaking” EQ with a defined Q and not shelving.
Can you please set me straight?

A: You are pretty much correct regarding the wide Q on the Bass EQ. The Treble and Mid controls are similar. The EQ is all post SansAmp circuit and can be thought of the same as the controls on a mixer. The Presence control is part of the amp emulation and operates like the presence control on a vintage tube amp. It controls high end distortion. The SansAmp circuit is the Drive and Presence controls. With the Blend control off these controls will not do anything.
