Double Bass underwood or doublebassmax ?

Dear All,

My DBMax is having some problems, response is starting to suffer, one side less sensitive than another....till death of one !! i think compression set is due.
I'm trying to balance using shims into bridgewings but results are unreliable.

i like the tone of Bassmax into AI focus III
What i don't like is unbalance of mono Bassmax.

do you think underwood might be a good option? i fear it might be lacking "balls" compared to DBM.

every honest opinion is welcomed.

I think it comes down to whether you want a nice timbre (tone quality) from the piezo, which the Underwood has or more volume, which the Double Bass Max will certainly have.
As long as there isn't a phase issue with the Double Bass Max, it should work fine, but IMHO it will sound quite different than the Underwood.
Have you considered a Fishman Full Circle, they're more expensive, but work very well, and IMHO sound better than either of your current choices.

I cannot use the full circle due to nature of adjuster wheel i already have.

DBM is used exploiting the 2 channels AI focus have.
The rubber between piezo lost elasticity, morethan this one branch now even used alone has almost lost its sound no matters what kind of shim for pressure i try.
Time for another pickup...

That's a problem for me as well, since I have ebony adjusters, and really like the sound. I used a Realist for many years, and found it produces a very useable sound, especially if you are going to play both pizzicato and arco. You might consider that possibility.

I've used a Bass Max, but I've never seen the Double Element with it's proprietary pre amp. At $329.00 it's more expensive than the single element Bass Max. Hard to say whether the additional cost would really give you that much additional volume, but it may.

The Underwood, can get plenty loud, before it starts feeding back. The Realist has a strong signal as well, another possibility is the Revolution Solo II made by Upton Bass here in the U.S. if you're set on a bridge wing pickup. It also can sound very good.
