Unexpected NBD

I walked in to GC to pick up some extra SpeakOn cables and walked out with this:

Admittedly, it's been heavily messed with, but the P was right, and I wanted a beater bass.

That thing is very cool , if it all works . The p-pickup route looks good in the pics . I like it !

Looks good to me.

No reason for it to be a beater bass, but if you feel like making it one of course you are free to, it's your bass.

To me that extra pickup would be an improvement of the original though.

The sound is surprisingly decent, with the added P pup allowing for some nicely varied tones. It gets deep! Haven't been playing it a lot as there are other horses in the barn which I've been riding more often, but that's my initial impression, anyway.

When I first joined a couple of years back, one of the members had a beast with about a half dozen pups iirc.

When I refer to it as a "beater," I man no disrespect. Rather, since it's been modified and was relatively inexpensive, thus of little intrinsic value. it's a bass that I wouldn't hesitate to bring into a dive bar situation and would readily allow other bassists with whom I'm unfamiliar, to play it as long as they didn't seem to be loaded.

Thanks! Yep, the finish seems undamaged and I'm even leaving on the pink strings simply for the obnoxious factor.
