P or J bass with an Ampeg, Hartke or GK amp will be better than what you currently have. If money is an issue you might want to look for some used MIM or Ibanez basses. You can find great deals on gear. I recently purchased a used Hartke 410TP cab at a pawn shop for $75 and a used Hartke HA2500 head mounted in and SKB rack for $125.

it does sound muddy and there is no crispness to it, I keep adjusting my EQ but can't find what I'm looking for.

The EB-0 is going to sound fairly muddy. It's a boomy bass.

If you want the crispness go for a Jazz or Precision bass (or PJ). A Jazz will be crisper than a Precision, but the Precision will get you some extra thump when you need it for rock or lower music. You can get cheap Jazz or Precision basses (or PJs) from Squier that will play nice. I'd recommend the Vintage Modified series.

I'm not sure you really need to upgrade your amp just yet. If you're just starting out there's no need to go overboard quite yet. The EB-0 has a fat pickup in the muddiest sounding spot on the body. I'd try a new bass first.

I am looking for a deep tone good for rock music, such as Mike Dirnt's from green day, are there any suggestions on what I could adjust/buy to give me a better overall sound? cheers.

You could by a Mike Dirnt signature bass.

Or you can get yourself a amp modeling Di pedal and you should be able to get a workable tone and way cheaper than changing all your gear

Yeah, a Fender-style with roundwound strings and maybe an overdrive pedal of some sort. The Gibson is great for what it does, but for what you're aiming for, that midrange slice of a Fender is right up your alley.

I don't think you necessarily need a new bass just because it doesn't fit the taste of other TB members. However, you could probably look into a better amp, and might need to change your strings.

After awhile of playing you will be able to get almost any amp to give you what you want once learn how to EQ it properly and understand its limitations.

However, you have to have a good starting point. So I will echo that replacing the Epiphone with a J or a P will get you farther faster than upgrading your amp to your tone needs.

May I suggesr a Squier Vintage Modified P-bass into a fender Rumble 100 v3. Will sound much better than your present rig and won't break your budget.
Even better if you can find these used. check Craigslist.

Mike drint used a Gibson ripper for the majority of the early green day albums...so there's that.

The Ripper is particularly sub par. Known for sounding flat and muddy. If you are one of the unfortunates who still owns one, I will take it off your hands. I might even split shipping if you ask nicely...

I agree with the ones who suggested the Squier Dirnt or a used P bass with a Fender Rumble 100 or 200 amp. You can find both used for under $500. Best bang for the buck and will get you the sound you want!

An EB-0 is a cool bass, for sure, but it's not the most versatile guitar for a first bass. I'd suggest, like others have already, a P-bass of some type. You'll find them if every price range. Then if you still aren't getting enough dirt in your tone, get something like an MXR Micro Amp--it's cheap, one knob, and will push the front end of your amp a little harder and blah blah blah rock and roll.

While the Epiphone EB0 is a decent enough bass. You are going to need something long scale with the pickup in the sweet spot. A good P bass Fender or Squier with rounds will get you there.

Leave your tone and volume maxed out, play with a medium pick and use nice tight bright strings
I play a Gibson sg bass (same bass as you've got plus a bridge pickup) and tell ya what a pick can bring a lot of brightness back. You'll drive yourself up the wall trying to get that bass to sound like a fender though. Grab a used P for cheap, but keep the epiphone, once you've got that crisp middy sound I bet you a beer you'll miss that warm woody thud on a side note find you a good mids heavy fuzz and try it with the eb0, maybe not punk/alternative heaven buf definitely stoner/doom heaven!
