UNMARKED BASS KNOBS?!?!

Just a pain they didn't mark them....
Actually just presuming they would cause ive seen that on electric guitars?!? Maybe its not common
I own three electric guitars, two of which have unmarked knobs. I own one bass, which also has unmarked knobs.

Generally somebody with a bit of experience will have no trouble figuring out what the knobs do by playing around with them, but yes, it can be confusing for a beginner.

The diagrams that @two fingers provided are the two most likely configurations, though if it's an active bass (bottom diagram) it's possible the bass and treble knobs are the other way around - not all manufacturers use the same layout.

If there is a pickup blend knob as per that diagram it is likely that that knob has what's called a "centre detent" - as you turn the knob, when you get to the halfway point of its rotation you'll feel it sort of catches so that you can tell where the middle position is.

Passive right? I have this setup on one of my basses. Because it’s passive, one tone will affect the other. It’s weird to get used to, but I’ve made peace with mine and there are some pretty usabel tones in there to be had. If you fell like it’s not working for you and like experimenting (and can solder) try different cap values to chang the nature of the tone. I left mine with .047 on each, but have read here where others have done different. I guess it depends on personal taste and the kind of pickups, and your style of playing/type of music. - Also look into series-parallel. That could be good maybe...

Got myself a begginers #5 string bass BG CHG5 BK) Its got #4 silver knobs none of which are named or numbered.....ive tried practising tonight fiddling them around!!
Ones obviously volume cause without it sound goes down or flat....found another that makes the thinnest/guitar string sound slightly tripped out on the higher neck notes like a miniature wah wah ish) other #2 I just don't know?!?
It seems to help the sound be more full to have all knobs on at least half volume I do like loud sound mostly and ive got headphones on so no worry's there)
#1st time ive played on a bass amp as got guitar amp by mistake) Cldnt hear any tones from the guitar knobs Be4.....other than they were working to test!!)
ive got a gear for music 6 string bass i ripped out the active eq and rewired it as passive now i cant remember how i wired the knobs up front pu. back pu and tone its a guessing game every time i plug it in. i removed the active eq as it was rubbish. suppose i will get used to it in the end

Hope this helps. No charge for my INCREDIBLE art work. ;)

This.

When you get settled in a bit, it becomes quite obvious.

There is a limited amount of things the knobs do on standard basses.

I think in 25 years of playing, I've touched one bass which was a Marleaux where I could not figure out what knob does what in less than a minute.

I’m one of “those” players whom for the most part just keeps all my bass / guitar volume and tone knobs dimed, and then rely on the amp or pedal eq. Maybe subconsciously I think I “lose” something when I reduce the output from the instrument?

Look I played it myself to hear its sounds But as my ++Legal status++ is Vunrible Adult I'm teaching myself at home okay.....this place seems a good place to generally "check out" what's considered to be "official" in the world of bass which seems sensible I think?!? Your sounding patronizing!! Otherwise because I have Ptsd ect I'll just not ask tbh
