Unrealistic Plans

So, I've recently co - formed a new 4 piece originals band with the guitarist from an older failed attempt. Its looking good so far musically, the two new members fit in well and have learned the songs fairly quickly.

But I have a problem.

I have another band I've been a member of for a few years now, and we're releasing our first 4 track EP in the summer (done completely independently btw :hyper: ). Meanwhile the other three members of my new band are away discussing an album already! We've only practiced twice as well! I've spoke about it to them and they still carry on planning it :scowl: what can I do? (Without quitting, which seems to be a standard piece of advice here :hiding: )

Thanks :)

how do you shoot when you have nothing to shoot towards? If they try to early, if it doesn't work out , they will know , valuable experience gained. Stranger things have happened

Thanks guys, i'm really glad with how it's now going.

If you're interested, here's a fairly decent mix we've had back from the first track, any feedback is appreciated, even if its negative ;)

Honestly with all good intention - I recommend singing lessons, and I think the singer(s) would find lessons to be very fun too. Anyway, thanks for sharing, and I wish you the best.

Fair enough to your opinion, each to their own I say, some people like the vocals the way they are. I'm not that fussed as long we enjoy playing, which we are

Hmm, this is why I dislike giving honest constructive help - more times than not its just misunderstood and therefore not even considered. Anyway, I wish you the very best.

Have fun and cheers.

Indeed.

When asking for honest opinions, one has to be prepared to hear some things they don't want to hear. Too often the people asking just want to hear how awesome they are and a pat on the back. The link is gone now, so I suspect the OP was one of those, unfortunately.
:eyebrow:

I'm glad I did not post a response... I was going to, especially seeing that we live in the same town, but I stopped myself because I had some comments that someone not open to criticism might find unpleasant, so I decided to pass. Turns out it was probably the right thing to do, as I don't derive pleasure from upsetting anyone.

The thing is I'm very critical of anything I do too!
My band's first album, which finally saw the light of day nearly a year ago, was fun to do, but I have a lot of criticisms about it, and about the way we went about it. We addressed many issues, as a band, but some of the things were just unrealistic to change atthe time we noticed they were not going to be good, and we just took it as a lesson and live with the result.
We're about to start recording our second album this coming weekend... we'll use the lessons we learnt, but I bet there will be new things I will not be happy with. I hope this time I don't cringe quite so much listening to my basslines even if nobody else notices my errors :p, and that the trumpet is in tune better :D

Sorry if I've caused any offence, I certainly haven't taken any, feedback whether positive or negative is good in my eyes. I do indeed sing backing on our songs, and personally I don't like my voice, but I am the only other member willing to do it. We had to change the link, here is the updated version - https://soundcloud.com/indigosixteen

Sorry again for any problems or inconvenience, I didn't mean to come across like i'd taken something personally :hmm:

Hey, no worries, in fact I apologise from jumping to conclusions!

It's tough to hear others criticising your stuff. I don't find it easy myself, but one learns more from criticism than from compliments (although a few of those are nice too sometimes ;)
