Unusual MIJ Custom Squier Precision (?)

No affiliation; saw this in the local CL and found it interesting. I see no reason to doubt its authenticity other than the WTH factor. What say ye, Fender gurus?

"Vintage first generation Fender made in Japan ealry release custom Squire Precision bass JV Series. very, very rare custom design through body string ferrels. Custom body and chrome pick guard. Great neck plays like a dream and light weight. 7.4lbs. This guitar is very minty and has no dings or dents. It has had a fresh setup with new strings and plays like a dream . vintage rare custom Fender Squire 1982-83 from the renowned Fujigen Japan factory one of the first fender bass models of the line in the first year at Fujigen. with custom fitted tear drop molded hardshell case"

The details of that neck are consistent with Fujigen MIJ JV series Squiers: truss rod at heel, maple board, strap button on the back of the headstock. But the body is not. Those basses had regular fender style bodies (not string through, no zany pickguard). When he says “custom” I think he means heavily modified by the owner or maybe even parts bass. I’d pay $500… if I was in a good mood

That doesn't account for the apparent lack of PG screw holes. 'Hard to see from the pics of course. Curious, eh?

the "Take a photo of your bass for craigslist without including a photo of your own nasty bare feet" challenge remains impossible, I see. :roflmao:

With a listed weight of 7.4 pounds, my guess is the body is aftermarket. I don't think I've ever encountered a Fender or Squier from that era that weighed in that range, especially not with a high-mass bridge installed.

Pickguard / control plate combination is outta whack in my view. It appears there is some configuration where they would fit together, but it’s not on that bass. If it’s a parts bass, at least the truss rod access in the body and truss rod in the neck ended up in the same place.

I’ve owned a couple MIJ Squier instruments & they were very good quality. This bass might be of the same quality level, but I’m seeing American Standard PBasses from the 00s for less money.
