Upgrade from Fender Rumble 100

Hey guys!

I am intermediate bass player playing in 4 member (drums, bass+backing vocal (me), solo guitar, rythm guitar+leading vocal) pop/rock/punk crossover band whose style could be linked to bands like Green Day or Billy Talent with some rythmical songs influenced by funk rock or rap rock (could be linked to RHCP) and i am looking for new combo or head + cab because my Fender Rumble 100 combo seems
inadequate since our band andvanced little bit.

I found combination of Laney R500H head + Laney R210 cab in some local eshop for price around 490 euros which seem like very good offer to me and head has compressor which is something i want but I don't know much about bass amps so I came here for advice.

1. Is this combination of Laney R500H head + Laney R210 cab good upgrade option from my old combo (is it noticable improvement?)
2. Do you have experience with this Laney head + cab combination and do you recommend Laney as brand?
3. Do you recommend some other combo or head + cab to me? My budget is up to around 1170 euros, but cheaper is always better.

Thanks a lot for any answers!

Ok, thanks a lot. Sound of Fender Rumble is "just OK" so want to try something better. Ampeg PF-500 + Ampeg PF-410HLF for around 900€ looks like very decent option.

It seems comparable with Laney R500H + Laney R410 for around 625€ which is considerably cheaper.

I know that Ampeg is maybe the best bass amp brand but Laney is top brand too I think, so is that Ampeg option worth additional 275€?

I have a Laney R500H + 2 x210 and 1 410 and I’m very happy about it. It’s funny that some persons react negatively even without having heard or tested this amp even once. Tell me what’s not real about this amp?

Thanks mate, I'll consider that Laney option.

But I heard sound of Ampeg PF-500 and Ampeg PF-800 and I loooved it! So Ampeg option is currently my first choice and now I decide between PF-500 and PF-800. Is PF-800 worth that additional money? Our band plays almost all concerts with some sound engineer and his rig so there is no need for additional volume, but has PF-800 any other advantages?

And which cab is best for these heads? Ampeg PF-410HLF seems like good option for both of them, but I'm not an expert.

Thanks guys!

If you can swing it, go for the 800. Truly, 300 more watts isn’t that much louder if you were to compare with the 500 using the same cabs; just more headroom. How much speaker surface you have affects volume most notably. The 410 will give you the most volume, compared to a 15 because more surface area.

The only other issue is that the Ampegs need clean power, or they will shut down when driven hard and voltage is unstable. Mine has before on poor circuits. Never trouble at good venues. So make sure wherever you play has steady voltage at your outlet; get a voltage tester and check wherever you plug in.
