Upgrade my Squier or get an SX?

Ok so i've got a squier j with a busted truss rod and i have been trying to decide if I should just scrap it and buy a new SX or if I should replace the neck to start and then slowly upgrade it, including a re-finish, electronics upgrade, and hardware upgrade.

Which would give me a better bass in the long run, cost effectively?

any input would be appreciated.

Wow, not an easy one to answer.
But, consider that replacing the neck with a new one from, say, Allparts would cost more than a whole SX bass.
You can pretty much count on needing to have a new SX professionally set up, and a few (very few, apparently) are just plain bad; but they are made of alder or ash, which are generally thought to be preferable to the woods used by Squier, and the electronics and hardware are absolutely usable.
One thing: SX necks are chunkier, so if you're very used to the Squier neck, you might want to go the replacement neck route.
