Upgrading Bass need advice

Hi Everyone,

I'm wanting to upgrade my bass. I currently own a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. Now I'm looking into getting a 5 string bass in the $2000 range here in Australia. Prices are more expensive here compared to the US. The choices I'm considering are a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass V or a Lakland 55-20 which is about the same price here in AUS. Now the Fender is available in a local music store here but the Lakland isn't. So I'm looking to try the Fender but can't really do it with the Lakland. Hearing some great reviews about the Lakland makes me undecided though whether to go with the Fender or not.

I play in a cover band so I'm really looking into a versatile bass that can fit in most genres of music. I just want to hear people's inputs between these two bass.

Your answers and advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers!

Where abouts in Australia are you?

They all sound great and feel great. The thing I love the most about my 55-01 is the 35 inch scale! The E and the low B are amazing! I played a 44-02 for about 30 mins last month and I didn't think it was too different from a jazz neck. The 44-02 and 55-02 are probably more versatile sound wise because of the pickup configurations but that being said, if you buy a good jazz type bass, nothing will truly sound like it.
