Upgrading from passive to active EMGs

Recently acquired a Jackson Concert Bass (older Dave Ellefson signature, MII, alder body, bound maple neck...very nice considering what I paid). It currently has an EMG BEQ3 preamp and two EMG 35HZs. I am looking to upgrade the electronics/pickups to take this bass to the next level. The BEQ3 preamp should cover my tone shaping needs. My main question is this: can I just swap in the EMG active pickup equivalents? Looking at either doing the soapbar PJ combo, or getting a set of the DCs or CSs. I am suspecting I will need to swap at least the volume pot in addition to the pickups. Are there any other changes I would need to make?
