Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying EMG MMTWs for my OLP MM3. I HATE the stock OLP pickup. It sounds HORRIBLY muddy.

I'm been jamming for almost 2 years on my Spector NS2002B as that has bass was decommissioned by my niece (the pickguard was off and she came along and ripped the pickguard with the v and t pots clean off the bass and then took the screws that were in a box and threw them into the backyard) and i finally got together and bought what i needed to fix it and resoldered everything and now it works. I particularly love the parallel/series mod. The thing i noticed tho is how much i dont like the bass's tone. It sounds bad.. I put GHS Boomers Med on it and it sounds "better" but blech! I prefer my spector any day! Well I started looking into pickups and i really wanna try out the MMTWs. Anybody have any experience with these pickups? I searched thru the site but didnt find anything useful except that you either love em or hate em but no middle ground. I'm hoping that since I love the EMG-SSDs sitting in the spector i'll love their active MM cousins. Any thoughts or ideas? Experience with these pickups or this mod?

I've already done the DPDT switch mod to it and it sounds alot better but it still sounds muddy. When I play my two basses back to back thru AMPEG BA115 (MIA baby! :bassist: ) I can clearly hear the difference in tonal quality. I'm not saying that the OLP is bad, but in all honesty you get what you pay for.

BTW, I wanted to state that I love the EBMM Ray sound but my ultimate goal is not to emulate that sound. If I wanted that sound, I'd save up the money and buy the bass that produces it. Instead I just want to make my OLP sound better. For the styles I currently play it IS muddy. When I used to play punk and rock and metal, it served its purpose on holding down the low end but since i'm really into funk, jazz, be bop, swing, and mo-town, my bass needs to come thru better and have more tonal distinction than just a big booming bass sound.

I put a Basslines MM pickup in my MM2 and it sounds great! Threw in a 3-way switch for series/parallel/single, and the bass is now much more versatile. Still no preamp, but this pickup has really high output for a passive bass. I disabled the onboard tone controls because they were not very high quality, and IMHO passive tone controls are kinda pointless. I will probably put a 3-band active preamp in it at some point.
