"upload a file" button! you guys rock it, TGP can't; why?

the gear page recently switched over to Xenforo, and it's been awesome by comparison to the old vbulletin, but for some reason, after a few weeks with it, they dumped the "upload a file" button on their post fields, saying that with it enabled they couldn't control the amount of uploaded data they'd get saddled with, even restricting it to paying members.

how do you guys make it work? i don't recall if we needed to be paying members to get that feature (i am) but can you in fact keep a lid on the amount of data storage hosting and all that?

I've been in touch with TGP and am relieved that their migration went well! I think they'll get this sorted out in due time. There are a lot of things to get sorted with xenforo when first starting out.

XenForo does not support data caps per user. We used to have data caps for registered users and supporting members on vbulletin. And I feel we needed it back then. Nowadays though, storage has gotten cheap enough that it's not an issue for us. Any registered user can upload as many attachments as they want. We have just shy of 200GB of attachments on the server. If we need more storage we can always shove another Terabyte drive in the box for not much $$.

I'll send this info over to Brian when I get a chance: If storage cost is an issue with their hosting setup/contract, I'd highly recommend looking into the xenforo addon "[BD] Attachment Store" ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed] This addon will allow them to use Amazon S3 for attachment storage. And Amazon S3 is pretty durn cheap per GB ;) Pricing
