You can pick up a good used Cadillac Deville for 10-12K. My bass fits nicely with the passenger seat reclined and there's lots of room left in the trunk for a PA.

Double Bass Upright Bass CAR/SEDAN?????

Does anyone think I could fit one into a Chevy Camaro? (T Top Down? haha)

I have fit my bass in a '96 Firebird (t-top version), which is similar to the Camaro. Just put the passenger seat back, and the bass in upsidedown with the scroll by where the passengers feet usually are. Put a pillow under the neck block to keep the scroll off the ground, then seat belt it in.
Of course I usually toss my bass in the back of my Tacoma pickup. I string up bungee chords to keep the neck suspended.
+10. I bought a Matrix in 2002 when they first came out and it was perfect. As a matter of fact, I bought it just for transporting the bass after taking my stuff down to the dealer and trying it out. The only thing I had to do was put in a short triangular support for the upper bout which kept the scroll from resting on the back of the front seat when the front seat was all the way down (folded forward). But in the 2009 model, they changed the body design enough to make it more difficult to put a bass into it. Previous to the 2009, the rear deck went straight out, but with the 2009 there is a raised lip about 2-3 in deep and it makes putting a bass in a little more difficult. Still a good choice considering other smaller vehicles.
It also seems that any vehicle I've looked at recently that has front seat side air bags (including the 2009 Matrix), the seat no longer folds forward all the way down. So I put the front passenger seat all the way forward, remove the headrest and put the seat back all the way down (folds down to the rear), and then fold the rear passenger side seat back all the way forward till it rests on the top of the front seatback. Sounds complicated, but its not that bad, but not as convenient on the 2003 thru the 2008 models.

My Dad has a 2005 Chevy Malibu MAXX. It's a sedan/hatch back built on a Saab frame. There is an insane amount of cargo room in that thing. All the passanger seats fold down and you get almost as much cargo room as a van. Plus my dad gets 34 miles to the gallon which is prety good for a car that size. I'm looking into getting one myself. an 05 with 40 thousand miles on it runs just shy of 9k in my neck of the woods.
The Matrix might also be good. It's the same car as the Pontiac Vibe. My girlfriend had one of those before we got married. Lots of cargo room and comperable cargo space to the Vibe. Her sister got side swiped at 40 miles an hour and walked away from it, so it must be pretty safe too.

I'm able to fit my upright in the front seat of my '88 Accord. Fold the front seat all the way down, loads from the passenger door.
You can fit an upright into just about any regular size car (toyota corolla, civic, etc) if you recline the passenger seat and massage it in there.
The suggestion for 240 wagons is classic, but a 240 sedan will work too...I have both!

concurr with Gornick- I have never seen a car that I couldn't get a bass in- Beware, you may have the police stop you(as I did) wanting to know what I had in that bag. But, he quickly said -oh, I see, it's a cello---I just let it go and he let me go.
I would use a foam cushion under it and between the end pin and the dash. Have to careful and not slam the door on it. Just make sure the bottom bout is all the way in. Your passenger, if you have one, can ride in the back. They usually don't like it very much, unless it's a free ride to rehearsal and they play a violin or recorder. If you are buying a car, then you could test it out first. They will most likely give you 10% off for the good story that they will have to tell their fellow salespersons.
