Upright bass strings on bass

I used the Pyramid Golds back in the day. I used two sets and like them. I still have a set of short scales but no short scale right now and a long-scale set with a broken D. I stopped using them only because I was a kid on a search for tone. I think Rotosound rounds were next and I hung there for a while. Might have to get another set of the Pyramids again.

My to-try list is getting epicly long. I've caught myself planning a bass purchase solely to have a place to put a string set I want to try and know won't be a good fit for the instruments I have...

In my case I had the bass but sold the bass. Kept the strings.

Still I have found myself looking at short-scale basses of late.

I'm so boring compared to you guys. One bass guitar, a 90s passive Warwick Corvette with DR Fat Beams. I've been wanting a PBass again, because every time I pick someone's up and play it, I'm like "ah, it's good to be home". Would most likely sell my Warwick in that case, because I just don't need 2 basses. Almost all of my work is on upright. Only have one of those too.

I actually have 2 guitars; the Godin and a 70s Gibson that I bought in a pawn shop in the 80s with lawn mowing money. I've considered moving them both out and replacing with one acoustic/electric archtop.

Not really a gear guy, just want to bond with what I have. Strings, however, have been a bit of a fetish for me in the past.

The upright strings would be pointless on an instrument that’s not (at least somewhat) configured to utilize them IMO. So: fretless, big hollow body. Archtop if possible. Something that can give a ‘thump’. When I did them on the TB10, I used (iirc) 1/8 strings. The tailpiece end wraps came slightly over the bridge; this was not a problem (and might even have helped).

On a solidbody, such strings would likely sound a bit lifeless.
