UPS Frustrations

Bought a bass on Reverb on 12/27.
Shipping label created 12/28.
UPS marked it dropped off to them at their facility in East Peoria, IL on 12/29 at 3:16 PM with a delivery date to NJ of 1/3.
Then, UPS doesn't have it marked leaving that same facility until 1/2 at 9:10 PM, now with a delivery date of 1/4.
As of 12:27 am on 1/3, it's STILL in Illinois.

Can anyone explain to me why it sat in that facility for more than 4 days?

I'm sure I'm just being cranky, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I doubt complaining will get me anywhere.

Holidays this week/last week, an abnormally high number of packages being shipped, maybe computer glitch. I try not to have anything shipped this time of year, when the system is so overloaded.

I did order one thing as a Christmas gift around 12/6. It shipped usps, got lost, and ended up in Denver, where packages seem to die.

Luckily the purchase was through eBay, so I got a full refund in a timely manner.

Over the past five years, I’ve had at least three others die the same death, probably still sitting in some warehouse or in the home of a usps worker.

My rule now is nothing after Thanksgiving, and not until Feb 1. Our fragile mailing system just can’t handle the load the holidays put on it.

I have been told t9ld that USPS has a policy (which I imagine others do as well) that when a package is sent ground rate, they will not bring out another truck for just a few packages if the truck is full. Especially with large boxes, it can lead to long delays.

But, yeah, this time of year, the system is just overloaded.

Occasionally I opt to pick up a package at the UPS distribution center here, rather than having it delivered. The distribution center is scary after all the trucks have been dispatched in the morning. There are packages randomly scattered around on the floor and the conveyor belt and elsewhere, as if they were abandoned. It's a miracle anything makes it through the system.

USPS is the same. At the pickup window, you can see packages just littered around all over the place.

I know you're just venting, but may be OK. The bass I ordered a few weeks ago looked like that online - sat in Indiana for about 4 days according to the log I could see - and then it showed up a day early. This was Fed Ex and the week of Christmas.

Just saying don't be too worried about it yet...
