Have my next bass from Upton officially on order!
(I will share the deets once the build actually starts though)
But, I wanted to mention, this will be the 4th bass I've bought from Upton, and the second build.
First one I bought was actually an Engelhardt Swingmaster. It was my first upright ever. Got that in 2005 when I was mobilized with the Armeee. It showed up on my porch while I was away. I didn't warn my wife. She thought it was a refrigerator. I got that for slapping as I was getting interested in playing with a rockabilly band. That lasted a couple of years. Not the greatest bass ever, but perfectly suited for RaB.
Eventually, I actually wanted to play songs where you could tell the notes I was playing. Got a Upton Hawkes Hybrid. It really was great to transition with and I had no idea it would feel and sound so different.
I eventually moved up again in 2012 I think to the famous Professor Special Deluxe. That amazing bass had me realize how badly I suck. It sounded and played spectacular. So I figured, if I bought a Porche, and it didn't make me a better driver, maybe I should go back toward something like a Mustang or Camaro.
So, my bass is in order! If all goes well, I should have it before summer is over. But, another reason I moved on from that masterpiece bass, the DB gigs have sorta dried up for me. Too busy to pimp myself and get involved in playing out too much. So, that's fine; I have the patience to wait.
Watch how opportunities start popping up while I'm without a DB!
So, I can tell you, it's going to be a Bohemian, which is my favorite shape available now.
I guess all this tells a whole lot about Upton. I could buy a new bass from any number of places. I could even get something older to meet my needs and have it in my hands much earlier. But I know Upton will be able to craft a bass that suits my needs as well as my desires.
