USB input device?

I got a new laptop recently and it doesn't have a 'line in' input. On my old computer I used to just run a line in to record in Cool Edit Pro. I'm not making demos or anything, but it's nice to be able to get ideas down before I forget them. Is there anything I can buy for my laptop that would plug into a USB that I could use to plug directly in?

friend of mine has a USB microphone. i suppose you could use that. if you're handy with a souldering iron i'm sure you could tweak this and that to make it a jack to USB lead...

There are cables out there now that go from quarter inch to usb. Seems odd to me.

I'd check out a small audio interface like the onces that edirol/alesis/etc. makes. There's like a million.

There are USB recording interfaces. Line-6 has a ton of them. I just got a TonePort GX for $50 and its pretty nice.
