Used Fender MIM or Carvin

Which is better? Used Fender MIM 5 string or used Carvin LB20 5 string w/2 band EQ and SP2 Humbucker Pickups?

You're comparing pecans to cashews. Two different animals. What's your genre? Is the Fender a J? Do you prefer active or passive tones? Do you have access to both basses to A/B them? One might BE better, but the other might SUIT you better. IMHO

The better bass is the one you feel more comfortable playing and prefer the sound of. Posting this question, you'll get 100+ responses from people telling you what to buy. Save yourself the trouble and just go play them! If someone asked me which bass is better, my SX fretless P-Bass or my Squier fretted P-Bass, I'm probably going to say the Squier because it's more comfortable to play and sounds better. People here will tell you what to buy; you open a can of worms by asking this question.

I'm sure you're just looking for help, and it's understandable. Go play both and tell us which you like better.

Thanks. My current situation is I use a fretless Carvin exclusively. I love it; but, often wish I had a fretted bass. I have decided to move toward the MIM to increase the audio variety between my basses - and its less expensive.

At the same cost, the Carvin would be a much better deal. See which you like...

FWIW a few years ago i was giging a stock MIM 5 string jazz and it was great..loved the tone,playability truely a good MIM. I found an awsome Carvin B5 at a local shop for $400.00 that after i added up cost the previous owner paid $1500.00 to have made. Flame maple,trans blue finish/headstock, ripchip, all the goodies so i scooped it up. I took it to practice and only the looks turned heads.The band prefered my Fender (classic rock) I thought ..what do they know? I took it to two gigs and a few guitar players who seen us and knew my Fender said ...cool bass but go back to the Fender, That Carvin it sounds too thin...so i did sold the Carvin.
