Used Mixer VU meters not lighting up

Picked up a used Behringer X2442USB mixer over the weekend and in testing it noticed that the main VU meter lights aren't working. Everything else seems to work OK (haven't fully tested it yet). I picked it up because it has 10 XLR channels (and the price). It has some decent features (inserts and direct outs). I'll be springing for a Tascam Model 16 later this summer for myself, was looking at this to leave in the band practice room.

Just wondering if the VU lights are a show stopper, Behringer gear is usually hit or miss. I have a few weeks to return it, store is local.

I'm an idiot, if the "main" source button is not pushed the VU meters aren't enabled. Went through and did a full test of the unit and everything seems to be working fine. Will probably keep it until I upgrade.

Did some recording (DAW) via the inserts, will need to make up cables for the direct outs (TS) and my USB interface (TRS). Looks TS Tip (+) Sleeve (- & ground) to TRS tip (+) ring (-) and leave ground disconnected. The inserts are Pre channel strip and the Direct out are post.
