Hey now,

Very weird and random question. Im assisting a band with live sound help. We/they are on a very limited budget and currently using a lot of budget gear. Everything is being pushed through a pair of 2x15 peaveys. Anyways one suggestion for the band at this point is to invest in some subs to get some of the low end and mud away from the mains. Ive got an old Ampeg 2x10 thats just sitting unused. Can this be used as a simple sub unit or are these not designed to handle that type of signal?

not the right box for that; it won't keep up with 2 2x15 top boxes, and you'd blow it pretty quickly trying to pump out 50Hz at that volume.

Its a struggle trying to convince these guys to invest in anything useful for some reason. Its like they want to spend $500 to get protected from the govt and tax mumbo jumbo or drop hundred in cd's that arent selling but shriek at a $300 snake or $100 eq....:scowl: Actually the main reason Ive stepped away from bass playing duties and just assisting with sound.

Unfortunately there isn't an easy "almost" Pa..

Unfortunatley folks will not remind you that it's not just the speaker boxes.. there are other pieces that you'll eventually have to add.

Chances are we can un muddy what you have.. my 60s band uses a setup like this with chrystal clarity.

I personally feel the muddiness is more about the musicians and less about the system. They like to play on top of each other and almost note for note the way it was recorded. Ive tried to expressed the importance of separation. The lead guy has been the major culprit. VERY vulnerable and scoffs or gets testy when asked to make any changes. You classic geetard :D

Im very tempted as well... However it makes sense that a 2x10 will struggle to keep up with 4 15's. At this point it appears that Im shooting for a simple 18 just to fill some space.

I also dont know how much the voice coils will be able to handle the solid thump of a kick drum or tom. I can only imagine it doesnt bode well.
