Using a Combo Amp with an Extension Cab

I have an Ampeg BA 115 Combo amp and need to get louder for our next venue. I believe it is 100 watts with 1 15 inch speaker. I am looking at adding a Peavy Extension Cab with 2 10's (model Peavy 210TX) to get more sound. I am wondering if the 100 watt Ampeg combo amp will be enough to push the extension cab without sacrificing too much sound from the 15, and if the Peavy 210TX would muddy up the tone. I am also considering an Eden David 210 Cab, but it is significantly more expensive. Has anyone had experience with this scenario and how is the Peavy 210TX?

How were you going to add an extension cab?

IIRC there is no speaker out, the internal 115 is a 4 ohm speaker and the amp has a minimum impedence of 4 ohms.

Did you install a series output?

The generally accepted answer to your question is that, while your BA115 will not really be technically louder with the extension per se, it will seem a bit "louder" because of a greater number of drivers (1x15 + 2x10 vs. 1x15) pushing air.

Now, will you hear it as twice as loud ? .. not at all. For a true doubling of perceived volume you need something like 10x the power, but your combo with the extension will seem to provide a bit "bigger" sound than running it by itself.

It's also important to make sure the ohm rating of the extension meet your amps requirements, because you could actually end up with less power/perceived volume if you run an extension that is a higher ohm rating that what the amp wants to see (i.e. an 8ohm load vs a 4ohm).
