Using active passive switch as boost for solos

Is someone around here (or has someone tried) using the active passive switch on their bass as some kind of booster instead of using a pedal?
I have an American Deluxe Jazz that has the switch but I have found out that whe engaging the switch, and using the input pad in my ampeg PF350, hardly gets to overdrive the input of the amp.
I think I remember reading that the switch gives 10 db boost (but I could be wrong), so I was thinking to try it out as a boost ans also using some distinct eq for a "solo-tone"

Any tips or advice?
