Using compressor as a boost for passive basses - good or bad?

I am using my BBE Opto Stomp as both a mild compressor (comp knob at 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock) and a boost for my passive P and J basses. I am not boosting the volume much, but it is a little bit above unity for both (more boost on the J bass though). Could this be problematic with my amp?

It's just an increase in the signal level. If your preamp isn't clipping, it's fine. Even if it is clipping, it probably still fine. IMO of course.

When I had my Aphex Punch Factory I kept the volume at 10 all the time.

raising the signal level (with a comp.) also makes my envelope filter (a 70's DOD) more effective..

If it works it's fine I guess. I think I'd rather use a dedicated pedal/device to raise the level and let the compressor do it's thing. There are a number of "boost" type pedals out there I believe.

I use my compressor to boost my stingray,
as well as the always on boost section of my hematoma.
I have never come close to clipping my amp and
I am finally satisfied with my tone. Good times.

If you also want a bit of compression, sure, why not? I would use a simple boost if you don't want compression.

Shouldn't hurt the amp as long as you don't start clipping the input.
