Using Regular Guitar Pedals for a Bass?

For drives, is there a workaround or would I really need to get a bass driver pedal

If you understand electronics, you could mod the circuit but just getting something else is easier

You can try using a blender pedal like the BOSS LS-2. You'll want to mix some clean signal back in so you retain your low end. But like others have said, it really depends on the pedal.

This is exactly what I've been doing as of late. Works great

I could be misremembering, but I believe it was a DOD pedal named: "Heavy Metal". I do remember it was black with orange font.

It means: with eight horses (options), people can choose their favorite/best chance for winning. We bet on horse races here so, part of the whole process is making a choice.

I have successfully used guitar pedals by using an EH switchblade to split my signal and run one through the pedal and the other strait in the amp. Sounds great.

Back when I used to walk to school through miles of snow, guitar pedals were all we had, still fun though.

Most of my keeper pedals I use for bass and guitar. Exceptions are some vintage style overdrives and distortion and fuzz. If the circuit is designed to optimize mids and highs for lead guitar it’s going to chop the bottom off a bass signal.
My preference is I usually don’t use a Klon type or a fuzz face for bass unless it’s modernized with friendly EQ. Same with Rat types, some clones are grest with bass and some just aren’t. But it won’t hurt anything.
And if you like it then it sounds good.

I tend to use bass specific pedals, but will use non-bass specific if they have a mix or blend knob. Those will usually preserve low-end better.

Like people have already said some work better than others. I find that most makers will specifically state which pedals work well for bass even if they aren’t designed for bass.

There are definitely pedals (Guitar Amp In a Box Pedals) that aren't ideal for bass, but trial and error is really the way to go.
I love a tubescreamer on bass. I love a big muff on bass. I love a Dyna Comp, Orange Squeezer, Boss Octave on bass.
