Using someone else’s backline

so I've got my first gig in about 10 years coming up this weekend. We're the first of three bands at the venue.

The bassist in one of the other bands offered me the use of their rig (via a third party, haven't talked to them myself).

I have a great rig that I love, but it's heavy as hell (Mesa carbine w/ 2x12 powerhouse cabs). So I'm tempted to take them up on the offer. However, I know the tone I'll get out of my gear. I know how it sounds when pushed, and it had a great presence. So I'm leaning toward bringing my rig instead.

So the question, am I being stupid by wanting to bring my own gear when there's an offer on the table to use their rig?

Bring your own rig. You never know if the guy will end up changing his mind day of without telling you and then you're SOL. Plus you never know if it's something you can make work for you or not.

I say contact the guy directly.

Do you have PA support?

Maybe one of your cabs will do?

Possibly put it up on a another cab or a stand.

There's no better way to get back into gigging than to just jump into the fire. Where I live, you most likely don't have an option and have to use the gear that the venue provides. Jump in so you get used to it. Your tone is in your hands, and not your amp, anyway.
