Using the same rig for gigs and Practice?

My Band Is using the same rig for Gigs and practice. We use two different boards and run our vocals directly through the compressors to the board. So what I am thinking is use two XLR Patchbays run the line in to one side and the outs to the other . But I want to set it up so that the cables to both boards stay connected to the boards and use Y XLR cables to feed two output bays one for each board to avoid connecting /disconnecting from the boards every time. Will this degrade the signal or cause any other problems?

Ok Let me throw a little more info into the mix. One Board is a Mackie 1604VLZ the other is a Behringer 2442 FX. The comps are DBX 166XL's. The 1604 is the board mounted in our traveling rack along with the rest of our PA gear Comps, Effects units , Power Amps and Drive rack. The Behringer 2442 is the board we use for practice and plug the rest of the traveling system into it . The Band Leader wants to try to set it up so that the Board in the traveling rack stays connected all the time but he wants to use the other Board for practice and just connect the cables from it to a patch bay the 1604 would also be connected to a patch bay . The way the comps are connected right now is the vox lines run directly to the in of the comps then out to the board and the effects are run into the channel inserts. The only way I can think of to do what he wants to do is with Y cables from the comp outs to the patch bays. I am not sure if this is even going to work. Is there any problem running the vox directly into the comps?
