I have owned my bass for about 3 yeas its a chezch hybrid about 30-40 years old anyway i was feleing a bit frustrated with the bass both sound wise (had a bit of a mid range honk) and the action was a bit too high.
Anyway i thought ah new bass maybe? anyway i tried out many basses in my price range up to about $5K $aud and a couple over that and although some were nice nothing really grabbed me. So i thought hmm maybe i should consider seeing if we can improve my own. Well after my luthier pointed out a doggy bridge, the fingerboard starting to pull away from the neck on the g side (which was resulting in a very anoying buzz) did a fingeboard shoot, new strings, shaved down the neck a bit, had the sound post adjusted. $885.00 later it sounds completely different nice big warm sound and much easier to play. In fact i would say it just as good as some of the fully carved ones i tried out. So yeah didn't want to spend the money but it beats spending thousands on a new bass.
