Van Halen 2012 Tour announced!!

So wait, I'm confused...which one looks like Bette Midler? And are we sheep for liking Roth? Or for liking Hagar? Or for not being enthused about this tour? Or...is this just trolling? I'm too dumb, please explain it to us.
A new album is more interesting than a tour but to VH fans the tour a promising sign.
It's surprising that so many bass players here prefer the hagar era since EVH probably played almost as much bass on the hagar albums as MA.
As far as MA being victimized by EVH, I believe he should be in the band. But he's probably not crying too much about it.
I'm interested to see how the new tunes stand up
As far as the Sheep and Bette Midler... They are terms that are commonly used in the Classic Van Halen fan community not as a troll here on TB but used on other boards to show derision toward the van hagar era of the band

Very much in agreement. I don't think anyone is arguing that Mikey's bass parts were hard to play, although I'm still having trouble believing that Wolfie was always playing bass and not bass synching, but that's another story for another day.
Mike was worth his weight in gold with his backing vocals. It was part of the signature VH sound just like EVH's fret tapping, AVH's cymbals, etc. Take away any part of the VH sound and I'm not paying money to see it.
The Stones are still the Stones even though Bill Wyman doesn't play with them anymore.
I saw Foghat a few years ago and I don't think that they had any original members, They were still Foghat to the crowd.

I believe that most casual listeners of VH would probably say something like "It's so cool that Ed is playing with his son", I can't wait to see them.

KISS is also playing with a fake Peter Criss and Ace Frehley.
In the case of Foghat, does it really matter who is playing the tunes?
With the Stones, it's Keef and Mick.
With VH, I think folks didn't take too long to realize MA's impact and how he was part of the signature sound. Had he not been screwed, I think people might not have been up in arms.

But, it's the same with KISS and VH too.
I don't know the details, exactly how did Mike get "screwed".
Kiss is a little different in the sense that they've more or less hired some clones who play and look the part to the point that most of us wouldn't know.
My point is that VH isn't the same as Kiss because I don't feel that they've found someone who can nail the tone of MA's high harmonies.
The details are pretty simple. MA was fired for being friends with Hagar. It sounds like he would have been willing to play the 1st DLR reunion, but was handed walking papers instead.

And yet they use the samples of his backing vocals throughout their live shows. Don't be fooled into thinking that Mike just slapped the big stick with VH.
At the time, EVH was in and out of rehab constantly prior to the tour and I think there was a certain degree of uncertainty that the tour would get off the ground. There had been a brief but failed attempt at a DLR reunion before the VH III album.
Mike wasn't even given the option to choose sides, just canned.
Another big "Who Cares?" here. If they replaced MA with a sasquatch and whoever the singer of the year is with John Lithgow, I might go see them then.
I went to see them in 2008 I think it was. Christmas present from my wife. The show was postponed twice.... It. Was. Loud. Painfully loud. Couldn't hear DLR's vocals hardly at all and he backed off the mic on the high parts, so maybe the volume and mix was a planned thing? Eddie played well, as did Wolfie.. I wouldn't go see that line up again though, bad sound and a mostly boring show.
